THE RIVER OF TIME MUSEUM
Water has always played an important role in the Lower Verde Valley, where Fort McDowell, Fountain Hills and the Verde Communities are located. By leading visitors through creative settings and informative exhibits, The River of Time Museum in Fountain Hills recounts the captivating past of this desert valley.
Here you’ll trace the steps of ancient people who passed through the Valley following the river for game and water. Learn about the large communities that grew here centuries ago and why they disappeared.
As you pass beneath a shade ramada, you’ll learn how the Yavapai migrated throughout Central Arizona, moving with the seasons and the availability of food. Continue on with explorers and trappers such as Kit Carson and Ewing Young as they travel the river routes. Enter a mine as prospectors look for gold and find amethyst. Learn about Fort McDowell and the struggle to bring peace to the Valley.
Then join the “river tamers,” as they build dams and canals. See how “the dam that never was” brought about the development of Fountain Hills. Check out the changing exhibit gallery and the River Bank Gift Store. The River of Time Museum has something new around every bend.
